NICK ALEXANDER GOES TO £46,000 FOR EXCITING L’ARME DE BONHEUR
May 29, 2025
Thursday 29th May 2025 – Nick Alexander went to £46,000 to secure the top lot from ThoroughBid’s May Sale, L’Arme De Bonheur, a promising four-year-old sold by Tom George.
The exciting youngster’s sole start Under Rules was a smart second in a Uttoxeter bumper on Sunday, after which George entered him as a wildcard into Wednesday’s sale, where he changed hands and is now heading to Alexander’s Kinneston base in Fife.
Speaking to ThoroughBid, Alexander said: “We were delighted to be able to purchase L’Arme De Bonheur. He was obviously a late entry into the sale as a wildcard, but he really caught my eye once he was part of the catalogue as he looked like just the type we like to buy.
“Using ThoroughBid is fantastically flexible, and I suppose this purchase perfectly shows that as he only ran on Sunday, was then vetted and entered in the online auction for Wednesday. The logistical advantages are clear to see, and we’re thrilled to have bought him.
“We’ll look to get him home and familiar with the yard for the next few weeks, and then he’ll have a bit of a summer break before we bring him back in and aim him at a novice hurdle campaign from October. Hopefully he can give his new owners a lot of fun and fingers crossed he’ll be lucky.”
Elsewhere in the sale, which achieved a 67% clearance rate, Dino Magic was a £15,500 purchase by Rob James from Paul Nicholls’ yard and will be one to keep an eye on for his new connections as he retains his maiden status Under Rules.
Reacting to the sale, CEO of ThoroughBid James Richardson said: “It’s fantastic to see such strong trade in our May Sale, headed by the sale of L’Arme De Bonheur for £46,000. He looks like a smart horse to follow for Nick Alexander, and his purchase further demonstrates ThoroughBid’s versatility as an online auction house. To have run on Sunday, been listed as a wildcard on Tuesday and sold well on Wednesday just shows what ThoroughBid can deliver for its clients. We’ll follow his career closely for his new connections.
“It was also great to see Paul Nicholls selling in this sale, and particularly so as his Dino Magic made £15,500 and looks to give purchaser Rob James and new connections plenty of fun. It was also encouraging to see the clearance rate nudging up towards 70%, and we are looking forward to our next sale on Tuesday 24th June.”
ThoroughBid’s next sale will take place on Tuesday 24th June 2025. Full results of the May Sale can be found here: https://thoroughbid.co.uk/collection/60
