SHARK HANLON HORSE TOPS AUGUST SALE AT £28,000 AHEAD OF TONIGHT’S DOWN ROYAL RUN
Aug 29, 2025
Friday 29th August, 2025 – Sharing Is Caring’s new owners will be hoping for immediate success at Down Royal this evening, as the Shark Hanlon-trained point-to-point winner will line up in the Maiden Hurdle at 6:23pm just hours after being purchased for £28,000 at ThoroughBid’s August Sale.
Signed for by Lewis Jones, the four-year-old recent point-to-point winner topped the sale at £28,000 and will stay in training with Hanlon for tonight’s tilt at Down Royal.
Reacting to the sale, Hanlon said: “It’s all happened very quickly! The catalogue went live a week ago, he was sold this afternoon and now runs at Down Royal this evening. ThoroughBid is very quick and efficient, and they promoted the horse fantastically during the week across their marketing and media platforms. They’ve done a great job again and hopefully the horse can go close tonight.
“The new owner has agreed to run him this evening and I’m hoping he wins for him. He’s a very consistent horse and I don’t think he’ll be out of the first three again. What the owner is planning further down the line, I don’t know yet, but we’re all looking forward to this evening.”
At £20,000, Irish trainer Daniel Murphy was delighted to secure the Clive Cox-consigned This Guy, who looks set to hit the ground running in Ireland:
“Things have been going really well since I went on my own licence. We’ve had 28 winners so far, so we’re flying for a yard of our size, and I’m keen to keep on the front foot by buying some new horses,” said Murphy, who’ll be celebrating his second year with his own training licence in Ireland on 1st September.
“I’m keen on finding horses for Dundalk, as it’s a good track to target as a small trainer. This Guy is a Blue Point out of a Dubawi mare, and from my experience horses out of Dubawi mares tend to go well on the sand. I rang up Clive [Cox] and he said he’d be a grand horse for Dundalk, so we got going with the bidding.
“I was on the edge of my seat in the office whilst bidding! We went to £10,000 and thought we were in a good place, and then at £15,000 we were sure we had him, but we had to go that little bit extra to get him at £20,000. It was great fun bidding online, and when the two-minute timer ticks down at the end you’re sweating – I was counting down the seconds! It was a good first experience of buying with ThoroughBid and hopefully he turns out to be a good buy.”
Elsewhere, both horses consigned by Henry de Bromhead sold well, with seven-year-old chase winner Garde Le Peche going to Tim Underwood for £5,500 and recent Wexford runner-up Itwasfate signed for by Ben Holohan at £4,500.
There were also successful sales for Gordon Elliott, Jennie Candlish, Kieran Burke and Philip Rothwell.
James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, said: “It was a busy session of bidding today, with plenty of interest in both Shark Hanlon’s Sharing Is Caring and Clive Cox’s This Guy, who have both sold really well. We’re all excited to see how Sharing Is Caring gets on at Down Royal this evening and wish the best of luck to both Shark and the new owners.
“Having a nice Flat horse of Clive Cox’s sell for £20,000 to race in Ireland is a good example of how we can facilitate effective sales for both consigner and purchaser, while we’re pleased to once again have the likes of Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead using the platform with plenty of success.”
